Luminous Awakening

It was the central, radiant light breaking through the clouds that inspired me to paint this piece. The light was arresting and sharp in contrast to the softness of form of the clouds. It called to mind the idea of enlightenment, a moment or illumination that has an immediacy to it and leaves one altered. The way the light spreads across the sky and touches the landscape evokes the idea of enlightenment as a transformative force that dispels darkness and brings understanding. I took the reference photo for this painting early in the morning as the mist was rising in the hill. My work speaks to the connection experienced when immersed in nature. I like the way this composition invites the viewer to follow a path or forge their own into the hills and mist. I originally titled this piece “Following the Space Between the Lines”. After completing the painting, I retitled it based on the incredible spectral colours that softly radiated through the clouds.
